HOLIDAY GIFT FOR OTHERS

Making a difference this holiday season, the new Danville San Ramon Rotary members collaborated as an amazing team to serve those in need this season.  With donations from members by the end of our wrapping party attended by 12 Rotarians on Friday night we had:

Wrapped 125 Gifts for the Adopt a Family giving programs for Shelter Inc. and Harmony House.

Collected 80 $25 Safeway or Target Gift Cards along with winter clothing and umbrellas for the Trinity Center

Collected diapers and toys for the Bay Area Crisis Nursery

Through this, our members did an amazing job of collaborating and making it possible for the three clubs to maintain their annual giving together as a team.

This was complicated endeavor was led by Allen Mueller – Danville Rotary, Jack Worthington and Pat Burgess – Danville Sycamore Rotary, and Karen McNamara – San Ramon Rotary along with the essential PR done by Daniel Kodam.  Thank you also to Kathy Chiverton of Danville Rotary for hosting our wrapping party.

Give a round of applause to our team when you see them.

Pete Villa Awards

Danville Rotary presented its 27th annual Pete Villa Award to the outstanding high school football player of the year for the San Ramon Valley Unified School District on Tuesday, Dec. 12.  The award was created to honor long time Danville Rotarian, Pete Villa.  Pete was instrumental in creating and coaching the Thunderbird Football program for youth in the valley and many high school players began their football careers under Pete.

The award is presented both for football performance and for team leadership.  Each of the coaches at the four high schools in the district nominates three players for the award.  A committee of two former district high school coaches and then district administrators, Rob Stockberger and Dave Kravitz along with former Thunderbird and high school player, Karl Speck and two Danville Rotarians Gary Cappelletti and Allen Mueller served on the selection committee.

At the award ceremony, attended by the 12 players, their parents, and coaches, coaches introduced the players and shared something about each player.  The awards went to the following players:

Winner:

Marco Jones, San Ramon Valley

First Runner Up:

Luke Baker, San Ramon Valley

Second Runner Up: (TIE)

Devan Love, California

Julian McMahan, Monte Vista

Helping Cristo Rey De La Salle East Bay High School

This year we were awarded a District Grant to provide needed furniture for Christo Rey De La Salle. Twentyfive desks and chairs will be arriving at the school before December 21st, when they go on their holiday break. They will need help to assemble and place this furniture in the school. We won’t know the date of the furniture’s arrival or when we will assemble it until it arrives. Please let Claes Elfving know if you may be able to help assemble this furniture if you are available when we are going to do it. Thank you for your help.

Happy Holidays
