Devote Rotarian Mary Tuttle passes away at 86 years young!
Mary Alice Tuttle has lived her life as a true Rotarian.
Our beloved Danville Sycamore Valley Rotary member, Mary Tuttle, left us Sunday evening August 9, 2015.
The mission of Rotary International, a worldwide association of Rotary clubs, is to provide service to others, promote high ethical standards, and to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through its fellowship of business, professional and community leaders.
Mary embodied the spirit and meaning of this mission. Through her support of the Girls Group Home, involvement in her local business community and her commitment to making a difference. Her endless energy and smile and love of people and of course her love of dancing brought joy to our world! At 85 years young Mary was Citizen of the Year in Danville in 2014.

Mary Tuttle, Citizen of the Year: “Mary has been involved in the whole (Interstate) 680 corridor since the late ’80s,” said Shelby McNamara, president of the Danville Area Chamber of Commerce. “She’s been involved in every aspect of the chamber and always shows up.”
An elementary schoolteacher for 25 years in five states, Tuttle still tutors first- and second-graders. Now 85, she continues to be active with the chamber, the Danville/Sycamore Valley Rotary, a local girls’ home and a rehabilitation center.
“I call on shut-ins, take Easter baskets around and food baskets that the church puts together,” she added. “I really enjoy all that … I love doing things. I have to be involved; a little here and a little there.”
“We all join with Mary’s family in this expression of great sadness at the loss of someone who has brightened all of our lives and provided such a wonderful model for service and caring for the less fortunate. Nothing will seem quite the same without her.” Steve McKae, DSV President 2015-16
Mary you brought a smile to everyone who met you and you touched all our lives in a way that made each and everyone of us want to be a better person. We will miss you and strive to honor you through our continued commitment to building community near and far as Rotarians.
Mary we love you!
