Danville Mayor Karen Stepper Updates DSVR on Veteran’s Hall Project

Danville Veteran's HallWe welcomed Karen Stepper, Mayor of Danville and our friend Don Ledoux, former member who provided an update on the progress and plans for the Veteran’s Hall in Danville

Groundbreaking on the new facility was held July 2, 2010 and is expected to be completed by early 2012. The building originally constructed in 1925. The new facility will almost double in size to over 12,000 square feet including a basement. The cost of the facility is about $8 million with approximately $6 million from the Town and $2 million from the community and an additional $1million endowment planned. The plan is to complete the capital campaign in the next 4 months.

The facility will be much more than a Veteran’s Hall in that it will include a Community Room, a Seniors’ Wing and a promenade. A military library is also planned.

In addition to the facility itself, the endowment is planned to support educational programs, etc.

Wonder what happened to the large redwoods that were in the front of the old facility? The lumber was harvested and some was used to construct benches that will be a part of the facility.

Grants have been obtained for funding for furnishings, kitchen equipment and fitness programs for seniors.

Our Rotary club has contributed $25,000 towards construction but of course more funding is needed!

A Major Donor Recognition event is planned for December 3.

Danville/Sycamore Valley Rotary gives 25K to Veteran’s Hall project

At our regular meeting on Tuesday, July 27th, we were honored to make a check presentation of $25,000 to Danville Vice Mayor Karen Stepper, who received the check on behalf of the Veteran’s Memorial Building Development Committee of San Ramon Valley, a non-profit, 501 © 3 organization.

Veteran's Hall Check Presentation

The Veteran’s Hall renovation project started construction July 5, 2010 and is slated to last 18 months. The cost of building a 13,000 square foot complex to house a community hall, classroom, meeting room and office space for the Town of Danville and Veteran’s groups is $7.7 million. The front two-story portion of the 85-year old building is being preserved and renovated.

The Danville/Sycamore Valley Rotary has always been a strong supporter of veterans. As a community club, we felt that this was one of the biggest things to happen in Danville. Additionally, we want to set an example for other community organizations to also contribute to the Veteran’s Hall renovation project.

The contribution from the Rotary Club of Danville/Sycamore Valley Foundation was made possible from the proceeds of the Blackhawk Food, Wine, and Film Festival held last May at the Blackhawk Museum. The $25,000 donation comes with a sponsorship of a Veteran’s meeting room and a plaque honoring the contribution. Additionally, numerous individual members have given generously to the project and were awarded pins at the meeting.

Club members, Bob Nichols, Don Ledeux, and Newell Arnerich, are on the Capital Campaign Committee of the Veteran’s Memorial Building Development Committee of San Ramon Valley. Member, Jud Scott, is on the Honorary Advisory Board.
