On Saturday morning, September 15, 2012, a dozen Rotarians from Danville/Sycamore Valley Rotary showed up at “0:dark thirty” (pronounced “O-dark thirty”), that would be 05:30, at the Alameda County Fairgrounds to prepare then serve breakfast to over 400 veterans, regulars and volunteers – over 700 total.  We served OJ, coffee, pancakes with butter and syrup, ham, and strawberries.

As you can tell from the pictures, we had a lot of fun, and felt very humbled to be serving the veterans.  Not sure which was the hardest to prepare, all the ham slices or all the pancakes.  And thank heavens we had some great, experienced leaders who have done this before.  Special thanks to our member Carl McBride for organizing our participation and keeping us all on schedule.

Even though Stand Down is only every two years, this is an event our club is always very proud to participate in.  Nice to see other Rotary clubs doing the same for other meals.

Here is to all the Veterans.  Thank you for your service and we will be back in two years.
